ABSTRACT
Purpose: This study evaluates the implementation of Indonesia's Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program from the perspective of Islamic Development Economics using the Maqasid al-Shariah framework.
Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative literature review was conducted using journal articles, books, government reports, and other relevant publications. Data were analyzed through descriptive content analysis based on the five dimensions of Maqasid al-Shariah.
Findings: The findings show that the MBG Program aligns with Hifz al-'Aql and Hifz al-Nasl, but has not yet fully met the objectives of Hifz al-Din, Hifz al-Nafs, and Hifz al-Mal due to challenges in governance, food safety, institutional readiness, infrastructure, fiscal accountability, and public resource management.
Originality: This study provides a Maqasid al-Shariah-based evaluation of the MBG Program, offering a broader Islamic Development Economics perspective that extends beyond nutritional and fiscal assessments.
